April 23, 2021

Dear Friend,

This was a busy week for the Louisiana legislature and power players are jockeying for positions at the Capitol. LFF was active lobbying, training and strategizing with lawmakers. Thanks to you, we registered our first major win of the 2021 legislative session.

SB 213, the St. Tammany Casino bill that LFF opposes, came before a Senate Judiciary B committee. The chairman of that committee cast a tiebreaking vote in favor of the bill moving to the Senate floor. After the vote, it came to light that that senator's wife is employed by the casino as a paid lobbyist -- to advocate for that same bill.

LFF supporters spoke up in masses about this “ethically unacceptable” process and, as a result, Senate President Page Cortez remanded the bill back to a different committee for a “do-over” to ensure a fair hearing!

While this bill hasn’t been killed, we won round one! In fact, your phone calls and emails came in such an impressive volume that it registered on the Richter scale at the Capitol. The Advocate has even recognized LFF as “the state’s most important faith-based lobby” at the capitol. That’s pretty impressive designation, and it’s all thanks to you loaning your voice. #WinningTogether!
