June 15, 2018

Friends,

This Sunday, June 17, America celebrates Fathers Day. I trust yours will be an awesome day of family and fellowship!

For our family, this Fathers day will be unlike any other before as we process a profound new reality. We laid to rest my stepfather, Elliott C. Roberts (Poppy), on January 15, 2018, and then Blanche's dad, Lawrence Bollich (Mookie), on May 15, 2018. This Sunday will be challenging in new and un-experienced ways.

Perhaps you, too, are dealing with the loss of a loved one. If so, this insightful Ted Talk unpacks, in a careful manner, the story of one man's journey through the grieving process in a raw but identifiable way. You might  recall his award-winning journalist wife's viral announcement, "You May Want to Marry my Husband." This courageous lady gave her husband not just permission, but the tools to live on, love again and grow through this difficult but navigable journey. I found wisdom and grace in the manner in which this family 'crossed over' life's threshold as a team. While it is not offered from a faith perspective and some advice may not be applicable to your situation, it does successfully underscore the role that communication plays. Relationships thrive when the process of 'finding joy' is a shared responsibility, as this family illustrates in a compelling way. Finding joy, communicating appreciation, and making memories are worthy Fathers Day objectives, but so is 'finding joy again' after experiencing a loss. I hope you find this resource helpful, I did.

Finally, LFF’s 20th Anniversary Celebration and Legislative Awards Gala is our next big event and promises to be a spectacular evening of honor. I have said repeatedly that honor is the language of heaven and we will speak that language freely over the leaders in our legislature, our LFF shareholders, and Louisiana families for their tireless commitment to impact the public square with light!

Mark your calendars for Thursday, September 27, 2018, from 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm. You don’t want to miss this special night at the Healing Place Arena in Baton Rouge, Louisiana!

Happy Fathers Day,
