2020 has not been an easy year, but neither was 1776.
244 years ago, the very first American patriots were entrenched in battle against best-equipped army in the world. The pursuit of independence was not easily-accomplished – many died fighting for principles that they personally would never benefit from.
These men pledged – “their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor” – so that these newly “united-states” would never again be subjected to tyranny, religious persecution, or arbitrary enforcement.
They declared independence from the world’s greatest superpower, and I’m writing to you today because of these actions.
Today’s United States looks nothing like it did when it became a nation in 1776. Today domestic disputes appear to threaten our national integrity more than the foreign disputes do. Our courts are rewriting America’s fundamental contract to become what it was never meant to mean. Some days, we seem to look little like the society that formed out of a desire to live free, enjoy limited government, and defeat tyranny.
That star-spangled banner has endured scandal, war and bad actors before. With the Lord’s blessing, it will once again, in Jesus’ name!
While America speaks of divisions, this experiment in freedom remains vibrant. We, the pioneers of self-government, maintain the power to choose those who will govern. We maintain a standing army comprised of thousands of volunteers willing to give their lives, their future, and their sacred honor to protect this nation.
The U.S. still possesses the rare ability to facilitate poverty to prosperity for more people than anywhere else in the world. We continue to fight for religious liberty and freedom’s cause, and maintain a reputation for liberating the oppressed and defeating evil around the world.
Most importantly, for now, America remains, “One Nation Under God!!!”
While we have much to work on, there is much to celebrate.
Tomorrow, fly your flag and celebrate what good about America.
And while you are at it, whisper a prayer for her leaders to be God-led, God-inspired, and God-fearing like her founders were!
