Dear Friends,

What’s up with “The Big Quit?”

I just ran across a column that focused on the current unemployment trend in the US and analyzed the factors driving it. Of course, the cash handouts during the pandemic stimulus (which are paid for with higher taxes) kept people home, but there seems to be another component.

From the article:

“As more than a few observers have pointed out, 'the Great Resignationisn’t just a search for a better job. What we are witnessing is part of our culture’s search for deeper meaning.”

I believe that we are in a unique moment in America. A hunger and thirst is emerging for purpose, meaning and fulfillment. Christians have a window of opportunity to provide “living waters” from a “living gospel” which alone has power to impart meaning and purpose.

...because our work is one way that we worship God, it’s meaningful even when mundane. It’s worthy of our highest efforts when, in mirroring our Creator, we bring order out of chaos, provide for our fellow creatures, and cultivate His creation.

Especially in this cultural moment, how Christians work is part of our witness.”

It is summed up by this:

“For those who are lost and looking for meaning in a fragmented world – constantly torn between idols of work and leisure, with little left in between – 'the power of holy intent' orients our hearts and hands beyond ourselves. It focuses our worship on the Worker and Creator who made us in His image and likeness."

We are reminded that whether we recognize it or not, Christ alone is the One we are truly purposed for.

Louisiana Senator John Kennedy recently shared his perspective on Critical Race Theory and why it shouldn’t be taught in Louisiana classrooms:

“And most parents want what's best for their children. They don't want their children to grow up to hate. They don't want their children to grow up to be racists, and that's what critical race theory teaches. Should our kids learn about slavery and Jim Crow and school? Yes. Should our kids be taught about the Tulsa massacre? You bet, but should our kids be taught that White babies are born bad and Black babies are born hopeless and can't make it without the help of the government? That's drivel, and most parents know that.”

Sen. Kennedy is right. We should teach children about the historical errors in our nation’s past, but we should never do so at the expense of authentic history or without a context which explains how we learned and steered out of those past errors. Finally, children need to know that they are fearfully & wonderfully made in God’s own image and that is shared among all God's children.

M, F, or X? The United States issued its first passport with “X” as the gender to an activist in Colorado.

While medical anomalies exist, they do not supplant the biological male and female categories. Recently, the American Medical Association suggested removing biological sex from birth certificates. Other medical journals and groups have almost entirely erased women by using phrases like “pregnant people” and “chestfeeding.”

All of this is sexual politics, not biology.

We must embrace the truth of God-given identity with boldness and in love.

Friendswe are called to offer every bit of life as a witness to Christ. In our families, entertainment, work, church life, and everything in between, simple words and action can shine a light that draws others closer to Christ.

I pray that our witness will be on high alert this weekend!

In His Service,
