Will SCOTUS Overturn Roe?
ThinkProgress.org | January 2019

Lawyers representing a Louisiana abortion clinic and at least two physicians filed an application in the Supreme Court on Monday asking the court to halt a Louisiana law that is identical to a Texas law the justices struck down in 2016.

The court is almost certain to deny this application in a 5-4 vote — possibly as soon as tonight. When it does so, it will effectively mark the end of Roe v. Wade.

Yes, the court is very unlikely to hand down an opinion this week which uses the words "Roe v. Wade is overruled." But these abortion providers filed this application because a federal appeals court openly defied the Supreme Court's most recent abortion decision. When the court refuses to enforce its own decision, that will send a clear signal to lower court judges throughout the country that they are free to uphold restrictions on abortion. The case is June Medical Services v. Gee.

2019 Leadership Academy
Spiritual Legacy Tour

LFF Commentary | January 2019

Louisiana Family Forum's 2019 Leadership Academy is an 8-day intensive Spiritual Legacy training experience for our leaders of tomorrow. High School Juniors to College Sophomores will journey to our nation's capital to learn of our country's spiritual legacy and their place in God's purpose.

Leaders are made, not born. LFF's goal is to identify and recruit courageous young people who are the best and the brightest in Louisiana. We will train the participants to visualize the need for leadership in their generation and open their eyes to the "Call to Action" to restore America's Christian spiritual heritage.

Past participants have described this civic activity as "life changing." This year's young leaders will realize that service in God's Kingdom includes engaging the political and educational process. Many will affirm their calling in the area of law, policy, media and other careers that are civically engaging and re-focus their future endeavors accordingly.

Don't miss this unique opportunity to send your 16 to 21-year-olds on this unforgettable life experience! Only 50 seats are available, so register now!

New York is 8th State to Legalize
Late-Term Abortion

California Family Council | January 2019

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has justifiably come under intense fire for recently signing an atrocious bill into law that legalizes late-term abortion. Sadly, however, New York is not the first state to legalize late-term abortion.

In addition to New York, seven states plus Washington, D.C. have legalized late-term abortion. Alaska, Colorado, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Vermont, and now New York are the states that have now legalized the barbaric practice.

Only seven countries allow wholesale abortions after the 20 week period, among them China and North Korea. The United States should not be among that number. Twenty states [including Louisiana] have passed laws restricting abortions after 18-20 weeks.

Homer Advises Fathers & Sons!
Intellectual Takeout | January 2019

Author’s Introduction: Imagine if Homer, Virgil, Dante, Chaucer, and the other great poets of ancient Greece, Rome, and the Middle Ages had been given the gift, not only to peer into the twenty-first century but to correspond with we who live in that most confusing and rudderless of centuries. Had it been in their power to do both of those things, what might they say to us? How would they advise us to live our lives? What wisdom from their experience and from their timeless poems might they choose to pass down to us?

Homer: On Fathers and Sons

Greetings, sons of the twenty-first century. I see that the many years that separate your age from my own have removed from your shoulders a great burden: the burden of bearing your father's name. In my day, our names did not stand on their own but were ever linked to the man who fathered us... That you are no longer named this way gives you great freedom to make your own way in the world. But that freedom, my sons, is fraught with peril. In my day, we knew who we were. We were tethered, not only to a culture and a family but to a single man whose accomplishments and character helped determine our own.

You, in contrast, see yourselves as unique and separate individuals cut off from all the ties that bind and shape and delineate you as human beings. Too often you set out to define yourselves when you should be more intent on discovering who you already are. You insist that you are blank slates on which you alone have the right to inscribe your own self-identity. But that is not what it means to be a man!

"Lay hold upon the hope set before us; which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast."
– Hebrews 6:18b-19
