This week, millions of Americans will stand together to oppose the “Equality Act,” federal legislation that, if passed, would effectively issue a gag order for people of faith to share their values related to natural marriage, sexuality, gender transition for children, and more. The legislation is a direct affront to religious liberty. You can RSVP for the virtual rally against this legislation here.
Then, please call your Louisiana conservative congressmen and urge them to vocally oppose HR 5, the Equality Act, and to tell Nancy Pelosi to stop this assault on our families and freedom:
Steve Scalise CD 1 (202) 225-3015
Clay Higgins CD 3 (202)-225-2031
Mike Johnson CD 4 (202)-225-2777
Garret Graves CD 6 (202) 225-3901
LFF has signed onto the Promise to America’s Children, a coordinated national effort to outline common sense policies that the Equality Act discards. We can’t afford not to speak up on issues as important as these. Parents can also sign on to show their support.
This week, Republicans in Washington, D.C. are speaking out strongly against the nomination of Xavier Becerra, California’s Attorney General, to lead the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. LFF also signed onto a letter urging Senate leaders to reject the nomination.
As LFF ally Jonathan Keller, president of our sister organization, California Family Council, pointed out, “[Becerra] voted against both the Partial-Birth Abortion Act and the Unborn Victims of Violence Act, demonstrating a sickening disregard for violence against innocent infants – both in the womb and those born alive after a botched abortion.
As Attorney General, Becerra routinely demonstrated positions that *opposed* health and life through blatant promotion of abortion. Becerra is not qualified to fill this role.
Congress is entertaining President Biden’s proposed $1.9 trillion COVID relief package this week, and it contains some seriously concerning elements. Among the most concerning elements:
- Illegal immigrants eligible to receive $1,400 stimulus checks
- Planned Parenthood eligible to receive funds from the Paycheck Protection Program
- $600 million for leave for federal employees and U.S. Postal Service workers
- Subsidies and loan forgiveness on the basis of race and ethnicity
- Allowing colleges with partnerships with Chinese-controlled companies and Confucius Institutes to receive COVID funding;
- $50 million for environmental-justice grant programs
This plan would add $14,000 PER PERSON to the national debt. Nancy Pelosi has cleared the way for Congress to approve it later this week.
In confirmation hearings this week before the U.S. Senate, Merrick Garland, Biden’s nominee for U.S. Attorney General, said that the DOJ will be prepared to enforce regulations and gun control measures passed by Congress and signed by the President.
The U.S. Supreme Court would almost certainly need to get involved to protect the 2nd Amendment.
