The 2020 legislative session has officially begun in Baton Rouge. With thousands of bills already pre-filed, we wanted to give you a preview of some of the important pieces of legislation that LFF will be tracking this year. As a reminder, you can always be a legislative first responder - sign up here for the 60 Second Brigade.

LFF will be following bills of interest and will provide updates on our Facebook and Twitter throughout the session.

Among the major topics of discussion will be a gas tax, auto insurance rates, tort reform, protecting women’s sports, and gambling. Bills will continue to be filed throughout the legislative session, but here are a few early-filed bills of interest that we will be tracking:

We have a record number of new legislators in Louisiana this year, but for those legislators who are returning, you can see how they performed last session by accessing LFF’s 2019 legislative scorecard.

All across the country, states are reporting sporadic instances of the coronavirus. Louisiana reported its first positive case Monday at the VA Hospital in New Orleans. Texas is reporting 24 cases and Arkansas and Mississippi have yet to report any cases at the time of this writing.

While efforts are underway to contain the virus, leaders in Louisiana are urging people to remain calm and refrain from panicking. Here are some tips for staying safe and healthy during this virus outbreak.

LFF will host another Town Hall Event next month in Pineville, La. The event will be at the First Baptist Church, 901 Main Street in Pineville on Monday, April 6th at noon.

LFF President Gene Mills will deliver an update on the 2020 Louisiana legislative session and information on U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy’s proposed federal Paid Family Leave legislation. RSVP for this free event is required and will be announced soon. Seating will be limited.

If you’re interested in becoming a force this year in influencing public policy, please take a moment and review LFF’s session checklist!

  1. Sign up for Advocacy Alerts – be notified quickly when legislation is filed that you’ll want to know about.
  2. Request an LFF speaker for your church, bible study, or civic group, and get educated on the upcoming legislative session.
  3. Give of your time and become an LFF volunteer and help us to make phone calls, set up for events, and more!
  4. If you’re able to give of your treasure, too, that helps us keep the doors open and gives us the resources we need to educate, influence, and win! Hard working and faithful Louisianans just like you have built a dynasty of legislative victories in our state over the past few decades. This was made possible because of the generosity of those who believe in life, liberty, and limited government. If you want to step up and protect the values that make our state so great, would you make a one-time or recurring contribution to support LFF’s work in Baton Rouge this session?

“Government's first duty is the protect the people, not to run their lives."

President Ronald Reagan
