After more than a month under strict quarantine, Governor John Bel Edwards said Monday that Louisiana is “headed in the right direction” and that we may be able to enter Phase I of the economic re-opening plan ten days from now. This would mean that the current executive order would be substantially modified.
Once Louisiana enters this phase of economic relaunch, many businesses will be allowed, under modified distancing requirements, greater liberty to operate. The White House, last Thursday, released a three-stage blueprint for states and regions to relax some of their business restrictions and reopen their economies.
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and congressional leaders said over the weekend that they are close to a deal for as much as $450 billion in additional relief funding for small businesses. This is welcomed news for many small business owners who were not successful in the first round of applications.
A federal judge in Kansas has blocked enforcement of KS Governor Laura Kelly’s executive order that had prohibited churches from holding drive-in church services, citing blatant religious discrimination.
“Churches and religious activities appear to have been singled out among essential functions for stricter treatment,” the judge wrote in his order.
