It’s official. President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence have been re-nominated by the Republican Party to return to the White House and continue service as President and Vice President of the United States.
The Democratic National Convention (DNC) is over and the mostly virtual Republican National Convention continues through the later part of this week as both parties gear up for a sure-to-be-fiery finish in the 2020 general elections.
Analysts are drawing eerie similarities between the media’s hype job of Hillary Clinton in 2016 and their blatant promotion of candidate Joe Biden in 2020, yet even the New York Times is beginning to backtrack on their “sure bet” language, conceding that President Trump has a higher economic approval rating during his re-election campaign than any president in the last two decades.
While polls show President Trump trailing nationally, Rasmussen Reports published a new poll this week showing the president’s approval rating at a record high – 51%.
The Advocatepublished a fiery op-ed this week from Greg Upton, associate research professor at the LSU Center for Energy Studies. In the piece, which takes presidential candidate Joe Biden’s energy agenda to task, Professor Upton warns that the ending of offshore drilling, as proposed by Biden, would be a death sentence to Louisiana’s economy.
“A ban on offshore drilling would cause ripple effects throughout the supply chain and devastate communities like Houma and Lafayette,” said Upton, “whose business cycles closely mimic the offshore rig count.”
