May 23, 2023 Dear Friends, Only three weeks left of the Louisiana legislative session! Today begins week 7 of the 10-week session. Several key bills are approaching the finish line and are then in the hands of Governor John Bel Edwards. Here are a few of our top priorities: ✅ SB 7 by Sen. Cloud - Requires public libraries to adopt and implement a policy to limit the access of minors to sexually explicit material. Passed 8-3 in House Education today. ✅ HB 648 by Rep. Firment - Prohibits procedures that attempt to alter the gender of minors. Will be heard in Senate Health and Welfare on Wednesday. ✅ SB 194 by Sen. Mizell - "Card Em Act" creates a civil liability for bars that serve or sell intoxicating beverages to underage persons if the underage drinker (or survivors) can prove harm to themselves or others. Will be heard in House Judiciary committee on Thursday. Keep Praying for Team LFF and our allies as we forge good policy for Louisiana families! According to the Daily Signal, the "federal Department of Education concluded an investigation into a Georgia school district Friday, arguing that the removal of several books containing pornographic material 'created a hostile environment' for LGBTQ and nonwhite authors and readers, according to a letter." The Daily Signal article goes into detail about the type of books the federal government is defending...we won't even reprint the specifics here because they are so inappropriate! It is difficult and troubling to understand why the Biden administration is choosing this hill to defend! | |
Pharmaceutical corporations Pfizer and PhRMA funded a “medical index” that promotes radical gender politics to young patients while penalizing hospitals which don’t adhere to the ideologically-driven index criteria. The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) created a scorecard called the Healthcare Equality Index (HEI) in 2022, which rates U.S. hospitals on their dedication “to the equitable treatment and inclusion of their LGBTQ+ patients, visitors, and employees.” Hospitals can only attain a perfect score by displaying LGBT symbols, using patients’ preferred pronouns, and implementing LGBT training programs. The index pressures doctors into giving transgender treatments to patients and punishes medical institutions that oppose these dangerous, experimental procedures. The index even deducts points for refusing to perform hysterectomies or mastectomies on young patients. Pharmaceutical companies are expected to promote the health and well-being of patients. Instead, they have prioritized a progressive political agenda. | |
The Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) released its Viewpoint Diversity Score Business Index, which evaluates 75 major corporations on a scale of 0 to 100 across a wide range of performance indicators based on how well they respect and protect free speech and religious liberty. The ADF chose to evaluate businesses “that have the greatest potential to impact individuals' or institutions' freedom of speech or religion." Unfortunately, only two of the 75 companies received a score of over 25, meaning the vast majority fail to respect free speech and religious liberty. ADF concluded that "millions of everyday Americans are at risk of cancelation or punishment for their views." The companies that ranked at the very bottom were Airbnb, Amazon, Google, eBay, and Microsoft. The ADF has confirmed what we already know. Friend, major companies and institutions that Americans rely on everyday are failing to respect the rights of their consumers while the medical field caves to the woke mob. As Christians, our fight may feel like an uphill battle, but we have to remember that we have the most important weapons on our side: Truth, prayer, and Divine intervention. Most importantly, remember that the fight to preserve Christian values in our country is not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces of darkness.
