Before we get to today’s news, we want to offer prayer for the people of Afghanistan and especially Christians who, in the wake of America’s exit, will face near certain persecution by Taliban and Al-Qaeda forces. On-the-ground reports indicate that the Taliban has begun extrajudicial executions.
There remain Americans in Afghanistan, including missionaries who plan to stay to fulfill their pledge to deliver the Good News of Jesus Christ. Read more about their plight here.
Obviously, they do so at great personal risk.
My heart breaks as I consider the events transpiring there. I’m asking each of you to stop what you’re doing and pray right now. Pray for the protection, safety, and provision of Believers and the underground Church throughout Afghanistan. Pray, for the men, women and children, who in many cases are fleeing terrible oppression of the Taliban. May God protect and deliver Afghans from darkness, oppression and our common enemy. Pray for God’s grace and mercy to be upon our brothers and sisters in Christ. Pray that the enemy’s plans will fail and that people will be preserved from harm.
Finally, we pray for liberty, as well as the work of the Gospel – that God would multiply efforts and bring His love to a lost and hurting Afghanistan.
Not all “fact-checkers” are…well…factual.
That’s right – PolitiFact is one of the so-called fact-checking organizations relied upon by Facebook to choose what is true and what is false; it is also a member of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN).
Because PolitiFact is relied upon so heavily, they have a duty to ensure readers are presented with truthful information, whether it suits their political ideologies or not.
PolitiFact has failed to uphold this standard repeatedly, most recently when it labeled a graphic from the conservative Media Research Center as FALSE, despite the fact the data came from the CDC. The “fact-checkers” have to be fact-checked themselves.
LFF has requested that the IFCN drop PolitiFact from its list of approved fact-checkers.
PolitiFact has a long track record of stifling center-right voices and falsely labeling information as inaccurate. If we care about free speech, we must make accountable those who market propaganda and label lies as truth.
Be wary of what PolitiFact calls false!
Today is National Nonprofit Day!
We at LFF are absolutely blessed by our supporters who encourage us in this work.
Nonprofits like LFF are specifically created and devoted to educating policymakers on key issues and helping constituents themselves get engaged with policymaking.
Congress, however, is currently considering legislation that would seriously injure the free speech of nonprofits and their supporters:
- the Honest Ads Act will increase digital ad reporting requirements which will disproportionately hurt smaller nonprofits
- the DISCLOSE Act will require nonprofits to report the names of their donors to the FEC – an extreme invasion of privacy that will discourage donations!
- the Secret Money Transparency Act will eliminate safeguards designed to prevent the IRS from abusing its power
- the Spotlight Act will require the names of donors who give more than $5,000 to be disclosed
- the Stand by Every Ad Act will force nonprofits to list the names of their donors in ads – a move that will pressure private donors into ceasing their funding for the sake of privacy
Please – call and email your US Senators and Congressmen and urge them to reject these pieces of legislation, as they will unfairly hurt smaller nonprofits like LFF!
It’s not news that there is a significant level of vaccine hesitancy across the country, and evangelicals are often “blamed” as the hesitant group.
But why is that?
Some, like this pastor, think that vaccine hesitancy among evangelicals is rooted in a mistrust of government.
A teacher from Memphis had this to say:
“My real hesitancy, though, is, I just don’t really want to see the government or anybody force people to do something that those people feel like is not in their best interests.”
But, let’s remember – COVID "vaccine" hesitancy actually began with left-of-center voices.
Think back to just 2020 when then-candidate Kamala Harris said, “if Donald Trump tells us that we should take it, I’m not taking it.”
Then, former Governor Andrew Cuomo said:
“Frankly, I’m not going to trust the federal government’s opinion and I wouldn’t recommend to New Yorkers based on the federal government’s opinion.”
Nancy Pelosi even warned that until there are clinical trials, “there will be doubts that the people have.”
Perhaps those incomplete trials may offer some explanation for some hesitancy.
