Dear Friends

It’s that time of the year when kids are going back to school! Many parents are probably thinking about school supplies, their children’s schedules, and potential extracurricular activities. But one major task for parents is to make sure they know what is going on at school!

The Federalist has some great tips for how to exercise your rights as a parent this school year, including examining the emergency health forms, opting your child out of sex ed and “diversity, equity and inclusion” programming, and even filing public records requests for “what’s going on behind classroom doors.”

“If pulling them from the system is not an option, then it is imperative that parents get in — to opt out, to question, and to assert our parental rights and reject what we know is wrong for children. Be brave this back-to-school season. Yes, we can,” Jill Simonian writes. You can read the full list of tips here!

According to the latest LEAP (Louisiana Educational Assessment Program) results, 41% of 3rd graders are reading below the standard, and this number has increased since the start of the pandemic.

While the Louisiana Department of Education plans to make changes to improve literacy rates, officials acknowledge that students need support at home. According to The Advocate, the “state is making sweeping changes in how reading is taught to try to improve dismal literacy rates among Louisiana's youngest students, state officials said Monday."

“The changes are focused around schools identifying and monitoring reading goals; high-quality instruction and intervention; ongoing professional growth for teachers in effective instruction and heavy support from families.”

Parents and families must continue education at home and keep tabs on their children’s progress in the classroom. No matter how you school your children (homeschool, private/charter school, or public school), parents always are the leaders of their children’s education!

President Joe Biden’s open border policies are harming Americans’ security, putting innocent migrant children at risk, and exacerbating the drug crisis.

“Rainbow-colored fentanyl pills resembling candy and sidewalk chalk pouring over the southern border are plaguing cities nationwide,” The Daily Wire reported. Kids could be picking this up and accidentally overdosing before parents even have a chance to catch it. Criminal cartels know the Biden administration has no plans or interest in securing the border.

The mainstream media and radical left say an open border is “loving,” but poor, innocent migrant children are being hurt the most, used as pawns by cartels and traffickers.

“The United States is facing the prospect of a major, long-term immigration headache due to the Biden administration's resettling of more than a quarter of a million unaccompanied children who came across the border from Mexico,” the Washington Examiner reported. “Since President Joe Biden took office, 257,110 migrant children have been encountered at the nation’s borders, according to data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Children are apprehended by Border Patrol and swiftly released to sponsors across the country, not returned to their home countries.”

These kids need to be in their home country with their parents and families.

P.S. Be courageous! Kids and grandkids are going back to school, and I don’t know who is more anxious - the parents or the students! Fear not – instead, trust in the Lord. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” [Philippians 4:6-7]
