February 3rd, 2023 Friends, Louisiana’s flagship university has earned a reputation as of late. From the campus-wide “simping” of gymnast Livy Dunne to the rash of crimes at university bars, the decline of LSU as an institution symbolizes Louisiana’s poor leadership and lack of direction. LSU’s Student Government decided to host a drag show on campus last week. Can you think of a better way to start the semester than to spend public funds on a decadent drag show? Here is the official announcement that LSU’s Student government posted on Instagram: Hey, LSU: When you request public funds for higher education from the legislature or accept them from TOPS recipients we expect more than what we have witnessed lately!
On Wednesday, Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry joined 19 other AG’s in sending a joint letter warning CVS and Walgreens against distributing abortion pills by mail, or risk violating the Comstock Act which “expressly prohibits using the mail to send or receive any drug that will ‘be used or applied for producing abortion.” Missouri AG Andrew Bailey warned the companies that they would be breaking federal and state law if they dispense the medication, and that they could be liable if they proceed. The letter comes a month after the Biden led FDA announced a regulatory change to allow companies like Walgreens and CVS to apply for a certification to distribute a two-step abortion-inducing drug directly to patients upon receiving a prescription from a certified prescriber. AG Bailey stated, “We reject the Biden administration’s bizarre interpretation, and we expect courts will as well.” In Louisiana it is illegal for companies to provide mifepristone and misoprostol through the mail with criminal penalties as consequences.
On Wednesday, the board responsible for the development of Advanced Placement courses across the nation released the curriculum for a course on African American studies with adjustments and revisions to components that drew criticism from Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who had threatened to ban the class in his state unless amended. “In the state of Florida, our education standards require teaching Black history, all the important things,” DeSantis said at a news conference last week. “That’s part of our core curriculum. We want (pure) education and not indoctrination.” In the new framework, topics including Black Lives Matter and queer life are not being included on the AP exam. They are still included on a list of example project topics that teachers can choose from for assignments. The revised course is currently being tested at 60 schools around the U.S. including Baton Rouge Magnet High School.
District 1 Congressman and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise led colleagues in passing a bill requiring federal workers to return to the office. It’s dubbed the “SHOW UP Act”; an acronym for Stopping Home Office Work’s Unproductive Problems. On the House floor Scalise told members that the government should be held to the same standard as taxpayers: “This bill just says ‘show up to work'; to do your job. To serve those millions of people who’re paying your salaries and counting on you to get the job done." It is time to turn off emergency Covid provisions and stop unproductive working-from-home problems in government positions.
Friends, in honor of Black History Month, I’d like to take a moment today to share the story of Dr. Mildred Jefferson – a trailblazer in the pro-life community! Dr. Jefferson was the first African American woman to graduate from Harvard Medical School and was responsible for creating one of the biggest pro-life advocacy organizations in the country, the National Right to Life Committee. She passionately encouraged college students to fight for life, saying, “If I had my way, there would be a pro-life group on every college campus here in the United States and in its territories,” she said. “I hope that wherever you [students] have a department of women’s studies or black studies that you will have a corresponding pro-life movement.” A true inspiration to preserve all life!
