March 17th, 2023

Friends,

Save the date! On April 18th, join LFF's Legislative Briefing to discuss legislative priorities for the upcoming session and learn how you can assist in making an impact in 2023. Our agenda is still in development, but you can expect to hear from gubernatorial candidates and key opinion leaders at the Capitol. You'll also have the opportunity to meet leaders from throughout the state and enjoy a catered Gulf seafood lunch.

Our three big legislative priorities this year include:

  • A religious liberty amendment to the Louisiana Constitution to ensure that churches are not treated unconstitutionally, which occurred with Covid closures!
  • A package of bills to make libraries accountable for providing age-appropriate material.
  • A commitment to preserving Louisiana’s abortion ban without exceptions.

Don't miss out on this event! We welcome pastors, policy makers, and LFF partners. Register here!

Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) is investigating the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) after it was discovered that the agency's website was linking to information on abortion services which allow circumvention of state laws. The website in question, AbortionFinder.org, is a search engine that helps individuals locate abortion clinics and provides information on abortion procedures and state-specific abortion laws.

“This website, Abortion Finder, provides minors as young as 15 years of age and younger about how to obtain an abortion without parental knowledge,” said Cassidy.

In a letter to HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra, Cassidy expressed concern that the agency is promoting abortion by linking to AbortionFinder.org, which he described as a “site designed to direct women to abortion clinics.” Cassidy also questioned the legality of the agency's actions, noting that the HHS is prohibited from using taxpayer dollars to promote abortion.

A recent survey commissioned by District Attorney John Belton, who is a candidate for Attorney General, was conducted by JMC Analytics. The survey covered both the governor's race and the attorney general contest, revealing that Attorney General Jeff Landry and Transportation Secretary Shawn Wilson currently hold the top two spots for governor. This week, Stephen Waguespack, former President of LABI, announced his entry into the race.

Undoubtedly, this race is shaping up with candidates who have strong backgrounds, significant demographic support, and a motivated funding mechanism in Louisiana. You can find the poll summary and tabs by clicking here. Stay tuned for updates in this highly competitive contest for Louisiana's next governor!

If I were a betting man, I would bet on the white horse in the last race!
