Now, for a brief election recap… In Louisiana, all incumbents prevailed at the federal level, including Senator Kennedy and six members of Congress (five Republicans and one Democrat). In the state legislature, two Democrats competed for District 5, with Representative Royce Duplessis outperforming Mandie Landry. In District 17, political newcomer Caleb Kleinpeter (R) prevailed over Representative Jeremy LaCombe (D) by nine points. While the expected “Red Wave” emerged as what Ben Shapiro described as a “Red Fizzle,” it does appear that Republicans will gain control of the U. S. House, limiting Biden's ability to move his agenda without bi-partisan support. It seems that the U. S. Senate will be decided in December in Georgia, where Warnock (D) and Walker (R) will decide the fate of the U. S. Senate in a run-off election. Meanwhile, Governor Ron DeSantis won Florida handily, beating challenger Charlie Crist by 20 points. He is the first Republican to win Miami-Dade County in 20 years. Overall, Republicans won the Hispanic and Cuban votes in Florida. Commentators opine that Florida is the new playbook for elections and that Biden's buyout of student debt was an election season caper and illegal! Disturbingly, Pro-Life fared poorly in 5 states! | |
Now that the elections are almost over, it’s time to get back to work in taking action on important bills, including the so-called Respect for Marriage Act, which will likely be put back on the table in the next couple of months. From The Washington Stand: The bill is badly misnamed as it does nothing at all to respect natural marriage. In fact, it disrespects marriage. The Respect for Marriage Act repeals the Defense of Marriage Act of 1996 that overwhelmingly passed with Republican and Democratic support in the House (342-67) and Senate (85-14) and was signed into law by President Clinton. It would also codify same-sex marriage into federal law. But the (Dis)Respect for Marriage Act goes even further. Even before the disastrous Obergefell v. Hodges Supreme Court decision in 2015, people who held to the conviction of marriage between a man and a woman were already the target of politically-motivated litigation. Since the ruling, those attacks have only intensified. In fact, between 2014 and 2017, these types of cases have more than doubled. Please contact Senators John Kennedy and Bill Cassidy; congratulate Sen. Kennedy on his reelection, and remind them both to VOTE NO on the Respect for Marriage Act. | |
A recent poll found that the majority of Americans (42%) would rather “follow their heart” than biblical morality (29%) in terms of defining what is “right” and “wrong.” Another 29% said they would look to “majority rule” to determine what is right and wrong – which is perhaps most distressing. If God is not who you serve, then you will serve something else — whether that’s the false god of self or the false god of the majority mob, that’s a problem. Friends, if you are discouraged by Tuesday’s results, consider it merely a reminder that God is still in control. We can certainly learn from the midterms and make improvements moving forward, but remember, the restoration and revival America needs was never to be delivered by an election! It will arrive when the church “hungers and thirsts for righteousness’ gets on her knees and cries out for revival! "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts... and be thankful."
